LOur Own Correspondent! Mr. and Miss Jessie Ewan of Dobson, have returned from a holiday spent in Blenheim. . . Mr. W. Furdy of Dobson, is visiting Wellington. . Mrs Smeaton of Runanga, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Jock Dixon of Taylorville. , Mrs. Wilson of Stillwater, has leA I on holiday to Dunedin. Mrs. W. Purdy of Dobson is spending a few days at Dunollie. The monthly meeting of the Brunner Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. W. Gutberlet presided. The meeting opened with the Institute song, and the aspiration. The President welcomed two new members, and visitors. Mrs. Stewart of Greymouth, gave a very interesting travel talk, and a demonstration on paper mache, which was very much appreciated by; all. It was decided to'form a drama circle, and arrangements were made for same. A thrift club was formed and Mrs. P. Moore- was appointed to take charge. I The competitions resulted as follows: Butterless cakes, Mrs. W. Gutbertlet. Article from flour bag, Mrs. Rodgers. A very dainty afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Dixon, j Butterfield and Rodgers. The wandering shilling competition was won by Mrs. Williams. Mrs Ramsay, of Taylorville, has returned from Nelson. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Brunner Borough Council was held on Saturday last, the Mayor (Mr W. N. Gutberlet) presiding, and Coun- | cillors Eder, Lockington, Harper, t Quinn, McNeish and Morgan being present. The Health Officer reported on work done in the borough, and on inspections made. It was resolved to authorise him to proceed with the issue of further closing and demolition orders in respect to neglected, houses. The Westland Patriotic Council wrote asking that a representative be appointed from Brunner to fill the position vacated by Mr J. Smeaton. Mr F. E. Lockington was appointed to fill the vacancy. Mrs Ryland (Auckland) advised that she had sold her property at Dobson, and that same would be demolished. M. Todd advised of change of ownership of Sections 49 and 50, Taylorville. The State Mines Department advised of the proposed erection of a double garage at Dobson. Dobson Hall Committee applied for a permit to erect a social hall on the Domain. It was resolved to issue th® permit, less the usual fee. J l . K. Hunter applied for a permit lo construct additions to present house. Granted. The Chief Inspector wrote re current and new licences for dangerous goods and industrial efficiency. The District Manpower Officer advised of a further extension of Scheme 13 Authority, for 13 weeks. W. Hamilton advised having purchased Lots 35 and 36, Wallsend. A resident wrote complaining of the overgrown state of neighbouring sections. It was resolved to advise that all assistance would be given to have the menace cleared up. Following a complaint from the district agent of the Local Bodies’ Employees’ Union, it was resolved that, failing all employees producing proof of their financial membership within . 14 days, drastic action would be taken Iby the Council. It was decided to order a further quantity of nine-inch pipes to complete the drain in Ohau Street, Dobson. The Mayor advised that, owing to the present war position, he proposed calling a public meeting during the coming week zo discuss the form of peace celebration. Accounts amounting to £79 15s Id were passed for payment. Prior to the opening of the meeting the Mayor made feeling reference to the death of President Roosevelt, and the consequent loss to the world.
