WORKERS’ COMPENSATION RAISED

(Rec. 6.30), SYDNEY, March 16 increased compensation for injured workers is provided in a Bill passed by the New South Wales Legislative Assembly Under the Bill, the maximum compensation for an injured worker with a family will be six pounds instead of five pounds per week. PROMOTION OF WOOL TRADE CANBERRA, March 16 The Wool Publicity and Research Act, of 1936, will be repealed, and the Australian Wool Board will be reconstituted under the Wool Use Promotion Bill, which is now before the House of Representatives. It is designed to improve the production as well as the use of wool. The Bill provides for the quadrupling of the rate of tax under the Wool Tax Act. Hon. Mr. Dedman, moving the second reading of the Bill, said the tax would now be two shillings per bale, one shilling a fadge or butt, and fourpence a bag. It was estimated that about £325,000 per year would be raised. The Bill proposes that the Government should add a subsidy of one nound for one pound, thus making ‘about £650,000 y£ arl .y available for research and publicity.
