RUIN IN FRANCE
PARISIANS EATING CATS (Rec. 11.40) LONDON, Feb. 12. “It will take twenty years to rebuild France. .Immeasurable quantities of materials and a great and hard effort will be needed,” said the United States Ambassador, Mr Jerferson Caffery, broadcasting from Paris to America. He added: “France was bled white in the 1914-18 war. But this time her losses have been far more grievous. American support for reconstruction is important, not only to fulfil our duty as friends, but also because the Americans now realise to what, extent their security depends on France’s strength and prosperity.” Police estimate that 30,000 cats disappeared in Faris since the liberation, says a Reuter correspondent in Paris. Hungry Parisians are eating them. Between two and three, hundred cats are daily reported missing to the police. According to Paris radio, a parish priest, ? M. Perpignan, was sentenced to death for denouncing French patriots to the Gestapo.:
