DEMAND FOR RECALL

N.Z. RED CROSS COMMISSIONER. P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 12. The recall of Mr C. Meachen, the newly-appointed Red Cross Commissioner for the Middle East, was requested by the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association in a resolution passed by the Executive this evening. The resolution, moved by Mr J. K. Moloney, stated: The recall of Mr Meachen is requested because his appointment was contrary to a resolution of the Joint Council of the Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John. It was also an affront to returned servicemen and was going to be an obstacle to raising patriotic moneys in future. “If he is not recalled the men who appointed him should resign,” said Mr Moloney. “There is want of confidence in them right through New Zealand.”
