Racing Motes

North Island Entry: Royal Dale whose name appears among f.he entrants for the unhoppled events at the forthcoming meeting of the Greymouth Trotting Club is a four-year-old bay mare by Sandydale from Royal Purple and is trained at Hutt Park by D. G. Nyhan. At the recent Wellington Spring _ meeting, Royal Dale drew attention to her future prospects by trotting two splendid races, and if she is brought down to compete at the local fixture, will at least add interest, to the contests for those of her gait. Broke at Start: There was good money for .Native Scott in the Improvers’ Handicap at Addington last Saturday, but he spoilt whatever chance he had by breaking when the barriers were released. Native Scott had been doing very well in his work prior w ’he meeting, and it may not be long before he makes amends.

In Good Fettle: It. was hard luck that Harpnod s Pride met such a good one as Traverse nevertheless he beat the others as easily as the Grice representative beat him. A repetition of his New Brighton form would make him very hard to beat if ho is on hand for the local meeting. Coming Solid: ;mnrnving Each race he has is impioving Barrage He finished very strongly Rom H good way back to get fourth n the maiden event, won by Lord Theio at Otaki. Barrage gives the Spression that he will he at home

over a bit of ground, and the first time he is asked to race over a distance among the hacks he is likely to give a good account of himself. Gnsen: x.

Grand Coulee was a hot favourite for the No. 1 Puhi Maiden at Otaki, but he ran about a lot during the running and the best he could do was finish .seventh. There is no doubt about his speed but he. will need experience before he becomes a punting proposition. Another to race greenly in the same event was Mysterious Melody, who, after piloting the field to the straight entrance, ran off the course and then finished fourth. Favourite Weakens:

Half way down the straight in the open seven at Otaki, it looked to be the best of good things for Patu Po, but he failed to withstand the challenge of Park Light, who was actually going away from him at the post. Patu Po should be improved by the outing, and he may. get a winning turn shortly, especially if the ground is any way soft. Not Seasoned: Bonny Flight was patiently handled in the Dunedin Guineas, but found the journey too far. She was hardly seasoned enough for such a stiff contest. Probably she will be at her best over distances up to seven furlongs for the present; though she should develop stamina with age. . Coming On: The race Sister Sal had at Dunedin will bring her on a lot. This Salmagundi mare showed fine form during the Autumn, winning several good races over a journey in the South. She is to be entered for the New Zealand Cup, and as she has been staying on in all her races to date, her form in the interim will be closely watched. Shows Quality: The two-year-old sister to Black Simon is to have her first race at Masterton. By Revelation from Eudorace, she is a quality filly .and in the sprinting tasks allotted her, has shown a fine turn of speed. Trentham track-watchers are coiifidenl that she will soon get on the winning list. Slow Beginner: Lucky Loyal would lake a much tighter mark if he could be prevailed upon to accelerate from the barriers more quickly. At Methven he was very slow over the first, furlong, and although he made up his ground in the middle stages, the effort took all the sting out of him. .and he failed to make any impression over the last furlong. Lucky Loyal is to race at Timaru, and if he could be depended upon to get on the journey quickly, he would get some of the money.
