[Our Own Correspondent]. Mr Thomas Mcßride met with an accident. He was thrown from his horse, being carried some distance with his foot caught in the stirrup. He received injuries such that he had to be taken to Hokitika for an X-ray examination and medical attention. South Westland is certainly handicapped bv the lack of a doctor throughout its whole area, and it is hoped that there mayi soon be an appointment. It is proposed to hold the next fat and stere cattle sale here at the South Westland saleyards on Friday, October 27, when a heavy yarding is expected. The road service is prepared to lift bobby calves at Wataroa early each Tuesday morning if there is a load of 20 head or more. A drapery business is being opened in Wataroa by Mrs A. K. Vincent. On Saturday evening last Corporal Byrnes was welcomed back from the Pacific at a party .held at the residence of his parents. Mr and Mrs Joseph Byrnes. Quite a large number were present, and spent a very enjoyable evening. Misses J. and M. Byrnes served an excellent supper. Messrs T. Nolan, G. Thompson, Joseph Curtin and Wm. Kane, on behalf of the gathering, extended a cordial welcome and good wishes to the returned soldier, and thanked the host and hostess for a most pleasant evening.
