COMPETITIONS

INTER-CHURCH YOUTH COUNCIL

The Greymouth Inter Church Youth Council conducted sacred competitions in the Wesley Hall last evening. There was a large attendance ofi the public and the total entries numbered sixty. Mrs. Best and the Rev. E. O. Harding adjudicated in the musical section, and Revs. P. Kirkham, A. Templeton and E. S. Hoddinott in the elocutionary events. Captain Ojala presided and had associated with him the Rev. T. R. Page who was convenor. The following were the results:— Junior bible reading: Margaret Nees 89 1; Bob MacAulay 2. 21 entries. Junior sacred solo: Margaret Nees 1, Mary McNight 2. 12 entries. Intermediate, character study: Miss H. Dewar 1, Mr. W. Rosewall 2 Junior hymn study pianoforte: Mary McWright 1, C. Mosely 2. Six entries. Intermediate sacred solo: Miss Marjorie Best 1, Miss Joan Swinburn and Mr. Bill Rosewall equal 2. Senior sermonette: Miss Shirley McNabb 71, 1. Senior sacred solo: Miss Winsome Truman 1. Junior scripture recitation: Mary McNight 86, 1; Claire Baldwin 83, 2. Hymn study pianoforte (intermediate): Mr. W. Rosewall 1, Miss Mary Stratford 2. Hymn study pianoforte (senior): Miss W. Truman 1. This was the first function inaugurated by the recently for. med Inter-Church Youth Council and the outstanding success of the competitions was evidence of the need felt for a combined body to co-ordin-ate the activities of young people along these lines.
