WAIUTA NOTES

[Our Own CorresDonaentj. The death took place suddenly at Mornington, Dunedin, of Mr Frederick Harrison, a former well-known resident of Waiuta. The late Mr Harrison was employed at the Blackwater Mines prior to taking up his residence at Dunedin. Besides his widow, he leaves one daughter, Mrs Q. Olsen (Dunedin), to whom the sympathy of their many Waiuta friends is extended.

Mr and Mrs Dave Scott, Reefton, have been visiting their son, Mr Hec. Scott.

Mrs W. Preen, who has been visitingn her daughter, Mrs C. Fattorini, has returned to Reefton. Visitors to Waiuta during the weekend were: Mr and Mrs Jim Woods (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs E. Gillman (Greymouth), and Mrs C. McKechnie (Greymouth). L.A-C. J'. Lewis is Spending sick leave with his mother, Mrs V. Walker. Mrs D. Costigan has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mr S. P. Williams and Mr J. McGregor were visitors to Motueka for the week-end, to attend the meeting of the Motueka L.R.C.

Mi- E. Myall, Blenheim, is spending a holiday here. Mr R. M. Hempseed, who is a'n inmate of the Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, is making a good recovery after his serious illness.

The ballot for the position of secretary and workmen’s inspector of the Inangahua Miners’ Union takes place oh Saturday The Union office will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mr George Lamberton, Otira, has been spending a holiday with his sister, Mrs V. Thorn.

Mr Georve Young, who met with a painful accident last Aveek, is making good recovery. Up to Saturday, £1241 had been invested in the Victory Loan. The quota for Waiuta, Blackwater and Alexander is £BOOO. Loosen up Waiuta! Excellent arrangements are being made for the grand dance on Saturday evening, in aid of the R.S.A. building funds. Valuable prizes have been donated for a Monte Carlo and Lucky Spot, while a special prize will be given for a lucky seat. Added interest will be the drawing of the competition which has been running for some weeks. Don’t have any: regrets. Be there!
