FLEETS OF POWERS COMPARED (Rec.-10.0) LONDON, Sept. 25 According to a new issue of “Jane’s fighting ships” Japan’s only notable new construction is believed .to be two forty-ive thousand ton battleships. The publication for the first time gives their names as Musasi and Yamoto. . Jane’s says that the Umed States Navy in January, 1944, eomnrised 4170* warships,, compared with which the Japanese fleet, showing signs of the war of attrition, faces a lengthening list of losses which her ship building resources are unable to replace. America’s two forty-five thousand ton battleships, Missouri and Wisconsin, are due for commissionine- in 1944 and make a total of 24 with more than 100 aircraft carriers in service. The British Navy now has 40 aircraft carriers.
