Hon. J. O’Brien (Minister of Transport), accompanied by his personal Secretary, Miss C. Moore, will leave to-day on return to Wellington. Mrs. O’Brien will leave for Wellington on Thursday.

The funeral of Mr. William Edward Batey, of Dobson, took place at Karoro Cemetery. Captain Ojeda conducted the services.

Mr. T. Mitchell has been appointed Postmaster at Hokitika. He was formerly Postmaster at Moray. Place, Dunedin. 1

Miss A. Vaughan, Supervisor at the Greymouth Telephone Exchange for the past three years, has been transferred to Nelson.

Mr and Mrs. G. Webster \yho have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Olsen, leave to-day on return 'to North Auckland.

Mr. J. H. Grant, of Oamaru, arrives to-day to commence duties as Stationmaster at Runanga, and' the former Stationmaster, Mr. R. H. Hyland, leaves to-day \on transfer to Rangiora.

The Governor-General, Lord Cowrie and Lady Gowrie have left Australia, states a Canberra message. Until the arrival of the Duke of Gloucester, who is the Governor-Gen-eral designate, the Governor of Vic■ioria (Sir Winston Dugan) will act as Governor-General. The Duke and Duchess of Glorcester are not expected until the end of the year.
