ST. COLUMBA V. RUNANGA. At St. Columba Hall two debates were last evening held, between Runanga' and St. Columba Clubs, and proved very interesting. The Judge was Mr. W. D. Taylor, of Greymouth. The subject of th e A debate was: “That the Principle Contained in the Phrase, ‘My Country}—Right or Wrong,’ is Pernicious.” The affirmative side, taken by St. Columba Club, was awarded 253 points, and the negative side 233, as follows: St. Columba: Messrs M. G. Kelly 77 (reply 11), O. Morris 79, W. Gilbert 76, team >vork 10. Runanga; Messrs R. McTaggart 68 (reply 9), McDonald 67, J. Kelly 79, team work 10. For the B debate the subject was: “That the System of Boarding-oul Children is to be Preferred to the Orphanage System.” Runanga, taking the affirmative, gained 241 points, and St. Columba 253 points, as" follows:— Runanga: Messrs J.
