Now Showing: "Keeper of the Flame,” starring Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn are united in a dramatic and romantically exciting st °ry M.G.M.’s “Keener of the Flame, now showing at the Regent Theatre. Adapted from I. A. R. Wylie’s bestselling novel, the film gives Tracy the characterization of a war correspondent returned to America after being ousted from several European countries for telling lhe truth, and assigned to write the life story of a famous American leader recently killed in an accident. In his investigations Tracy meets the young and beautiful widow of the dead man and falls in love with her. Kather’ne Hepburn plays the latter role and dramatic complications ensue when he comes to suspect her of complicity in her husband’s death, and is torn between love and conscience. A sensational discovery and crashing dramatic climax solve the problem.
CELTIC BALL The Celtic Rugby Football Club will on Tuesday evening present a' ball to be held in Schaef’s Hall, Greymouth, and a great deal of interest is centred greenery, the names of various local Belle of the Ball?” In order to assure that there will be no favouritism, the committee has aranged to ask a stranger who arrives m the town on ’ Tuesday, to select the “Belle.” Coloured lights will comprise the main decoration, while in addition to greenery, thenames of various local fcotball clubs, capped by their banners, will be displayed on .the walls The committee assures patrons of non-stop dancing, with two of the town’s most' popular orchestras to meet the demand. The M.C. will be Mr. P. Sweetman. Included in the supper will be delicacies rarely, seen in these .times, in the home, let alone at a ball. In fact the refreshment table will resemble that of pre-war days.
