There was a good attendance of the public at the inauguration of the vV.E.A.j sponsored by the Reefton Labour'Party. Mr. E. Reid, President, was in the chair, and introduced Mr. A. T. Campbell of Canterbury College, following whose interesting lecture it was decided to form a discussion group in Reefton. are to be held in the Fire STatTon on Wednesday evenings at 7.30 o’clock, when an invitation is extended to all interested. A number of residents gathered recently to celebrate the 60 th. birthday of Messrs C. Chandler and C. Cleaver. Mr. C. Coxall presided at the gathering, and on behalf of those present wished the guests many happy returns. During the evening, Mr. C. Curtis, manager of the Pyramid Coal Coy., took the opportunity to make a presentation of a bowl bag to Mr. Chandler, wishing him a happy life during his retirement. Mr. G. Richards, manager of the New Pyramid Mine, spoke in eulogistic terms, and other speakers were Messrs E. Riley, W Blom, A. Milne and F. Rollerson. Songs and musical items were contributed bv Mrs. R. Chandler. Messrs C. Hunt, W. Blom and E. Riley. Mr. and Mrs. T. Bowes returned to Westport to-day.
