[Our Own Correspondent]. HOKITIKA, August 15. The Gael is due on Friday from Wellington and Greymouth. Her southerly trip has been postponed until the Spring tides. Captain Warson (Auckland') has replaced Captain J. Reeves as Master of the vessel. Last week’s National Savings total of £378. exceeded the quota by £2OB. The funeral of Mrs. J. C. King took place on Saturday, many friends, being present. The services were conducted by Rev. K. A. Hadfield. ‘‘That Shakespeare’s Works Should be Abolished from Schools,” was the subject of a most interesting aebate at the. weekly meeting of St. Marys Club. Messrs G. Creagh and K. V. McMullait were the speakers in the affirmative. and received the judges award, while Messrs T. Cloher and L. Roberts were the negative speakers. Rev. Father Keane was the adjudicator. , ~ The Cobbers’ Club have secured the use of a room from Mr. John Hewer, and will again hold regular meetings again. A discussion group under the W.E.A. has been established, and its first subject will be “Searchlight on the Soviet Union.” The club intends to support a gymnasium class held at St. Andrew’s Hall each Tuesday night. Victorians 8. | In a football match nere, Hokitika i School 14, beat Ross 6, on Saturday, in the final -of the third grade competition , . , , ~ The Indoor Racing Club is to hold a race meeting on September 6 at the Soldiers’ Hall to raise funds for soldiers’ parcels, under direction of Mr. W. Dini. Eight races will be held with printed cards, and enlarged track and seating accommodation.
