AUDACIOUS THEFTS
NEARLY £5OO INVOLVED WELLINGTON, Aug. 9. In the Magistrate’s Court, James Doyle, aged 41 years, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, after admitting three charges of theft. One concerned £4lO. William Thompson, upholsterer, said that he left his coat hanging up, with £4lO in a pocket in his business premises. Doyle came in and asked about a job he wanted done. He left and returned about 15 minutes later. After this witness found the money was missing. No other person had entered the shoo. Another witness gave evidence of losing a wallet and £l3 from a coat in his office. He w.as absent, and found Doyle there when he returned. He afterwards found the wallet had been taken. Charles William Hammer, a tailor left his coat hanging up with £7O in it. Doyle came in and asked about having a suit made. He said he would return the following week. Ten minutes after Doyle left witness found the money was also gone.
