PORT FOR WESTLAND

Auckland Interest CITY COUNCIL’S RESOLUTION. P.A. AUCKLAND, August 10. 1 A resolution urging the Government to give serious consideration to the provision of an all-weather P'ort for the Westland district was passed at a meeting of the Auckland City Council. The decision was made ‘‘in view of the fact that a delay in supplying timber and coal to Auckland is in many cases caused through conditions existing at the present port.” Before the Council was a letter from the President of the Westland District Progress League, Greymouth, who stressed Westland’s need for an all-weather deep-sea harbour, and said it was suggested that this harbour should be built at Cobden, almost alongside the present port of Greymouth. He submitted for consideration a resolution passed by the League in which the Government in collaboration with the people of Westland, was asked to choose a site on which the Government should construct a harbour as s' rehabilitation work. The passing of a similar resolution was requested.
