The first round of the Greymouth Golf Club’s Blackmore Cup (mixed foursome) which was played at Kaiata links over the week-end, resulted in a win for Rhodes and Miss A. MeKnight, nett 78, followed bv Moss and Mrs. Moss; Hill and Miss J. Munson, 80; Caulton and Miss Lindsay; Lindley and Miss Robertson 81; Chivers and Mrs. Robertson; Campbell and Mrs. McCarthy; Jacobs and Miss Philips; Meldrum and Mrs. Meldrum; Foster and Miss C. McKnight 83; Tindale and Miss Reid 84; Boustridge and Miss Blair 85; and Walters and Miss Hambleton 86. U.S. NATIONAL TOURNAMENT (Rec. 8.15) NEW YORK, J'uly 2. In lhe Victory National Golf Tournament at Chicago Ben Hogan and Jug McSpaden- tied at the end of 72holes with 273, which is 11 under par, necessitating an 18-hole play-off to-day. Hogan, after three brilliant rounds, 68- -66 —68, relaxed in the final round taking 71. McSpaden started six holes behind Hogan, but by virtue of one of the most phenomenal rallies in tournament history, scored 65, and reached a climax with a 40-foot putt for a birdie on the final green. It will be Hogan’s fourth play-off in three years. He has lost every previous one.
