COPENHAGEN RIOTS

DANISH APPEAL TO SWEDEN.

LONDON, July 2,

The Germans are rushing reinforcements into Copenhagen to quell the serious riots in the city, say reports reaching Sweden. Angry Danes, yesterday, lynched three members of the Schalburg Corps. Crowds of Danish patriots are assembling outside King Christian’s Palace. Meanwhile the Swedish News Agency’s Copenhagen correspondent reports that the Danish Council of Liberty has appealed to Sweden to put diplomatic pressure on Germany to accept four demands. The strike will be continued if the demands are not satisfied. They arb: Firstly, the abolition 01 the Schalburg Corps of Danish Nazis, or the removal of its members from Denmark, as the Danish authorities are unable to do this for themselves. 'Secondly, the abolition of the curfew (it is stated in Stockholm that, the curfew was imposed by the Nazis in Denmark without reference to the German authorities in Berlin); thirdly, the opening of Copenhagen’s supply routes and the restoration of gas, water and electricity; fourthly, no reprisals for the strike. . A Swedish Foreign Office official said Sweden was officially cognaisant of the Danish appeal but was unable to make any announcement until she had time for more mature reflection. The spokesman suggested that the Danish appeal indicated chaotic conditions in Copenhagen.
