WELLINGTON, June 20. “A statement in the report of a drowning accident on the Wellington waterfront, on Mondav evening that ‘it is understood that the man was in the water for a considerable time before the crowd realised the seriousness of his position,’ is definitely contrary to fact.” says a statement issued on behalf of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union. The statement added that immediate attempts at rescue were made by members of the Waterside Workers’ Union, but their, efforts were handicapped by darkness.
