MILLERTON NOTES

I, (Our Own Correspondent) The Millerton Mine continues to work an eleven day fortnightly. Mr. C. Barnes was admitted to the Westport Hospital, during the weekend having received injuries as a result of a fall of coal fpom the roof of his working place in the Old Dip mine. . .. , , Miss M McEwan, of Christchurch Training College, is spending a holiday with her parents in Millerton. Mr. B. Watson of the ChristchurchTraining College is also spending a holiday with his' - parents here. . Mr. T. Murray of Millerton, is at present a patient in the Westport Hospital. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre visited Westport, during the week-end. Mr. J. McKinlay has resumed work after being on the injured list. Mr and Mrs. Stack and family have arrived here from the North Island. Mrs. and Miss F. Jones of Milleiton, are visiting Greymouth. (Pilot Officer A Corbett is spenamg a holiday on the Hill at present. The Ranger Rugby team played Westport on the Millerton Domain, on Sunday. Weather conditions were unsettled, making the play unspectacvular. The home siae won by 8 points to nil. A try was scored by Tainui and A. Dunn who converted, also kicked a penalty goal . Mr. F. Connew has been selected by the Stockton Labour Party Branch to contest the Stockton and Millerton riding in the forthcoming County Election. The Hon W. H. Mclntyre is again standing as a candidate for the Millerton and Stockton riding which he has represented for many years. The Millerton Bowling Club closed its green for the season, recently. In a game, the vice-president, J. Osman and W. Clarke defeated the president, J. Russell, and F. Riddell. The club competitions were won by the following players:— Singles: T. Calder; Pairs: T. Calder and W. Milligan; Rinks: \W. Clarke (s), Shewan, H. Milligan and T. J'ackson. The Hon. W. H. Mclntyre presented the trophies at a banquet which was held in the evening.
