RUNANGA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent; Mr. E. W. Kennedy, Mayor of Runanga will be offering himself for reelection at the forthcoming election. Municipal affairs were discussed by Messrs J. Kelly, A. Airns and J. Richmond in election speeches in an imaginary campaign at Thursday evening’s meeting of. the Runanga Debating Club. Mr. J. Richmond presided at the meeting at which one new member was elected. An appeal for Government assistance for a sewerage scheme at Runanga was made by Messrs W. .Pattersen, H. Webb, and W. . Williams, representing the Borough Council, to Mr S. Braithwaite (Minister of Mines) and Mr. F. Baxendale (Under Secretary). . The programme ended with a debate in which Messrs A. Keown, R. Hyland, and Robert McTaggart affirmed and Messrs Ron McTaggart, R. McDonald, and R. Bowman denied, “That the recently proposed world currency scheme based on the gold standard is preferable to the present system of exchange control.” Mr. S. Braithwaite was judge.
