OPPOSITION TO WAR

U.S.A. Methodist Qhurch ■’ MINORITY FAVOURS SUPPORT. (Rec. 7.50.) NEW YORK, May 3. An Associated Press Agency noessagre from Kansas Citv states: The national conference of the Methodist Church hotly debated t'he question of whether it should change its position of 1940, when the Conference voted not to endorse, nor support, nor participate in the war. To-day, the Conference majority’s report demanded that the church should re-affirm its 1940 stand. A minority report claimed that only six hundred Methodists throughout America were conscientious objectors, though over a million were in the armed forces. The minority report declared: “God Himself has'a stake in this struggle. Therefore the church must assert the necessity of the use of armed forces to resist aggression, which would overthrow every right held sacred by civilised man." The issue is expected to be decided later in the week.
