SERIES OF JAPANESE ADVANCES. (Rec. 7.30) CHUNGKING, May 2. Three Japanese columns are driving down the Peiping—Hankow railway. One column has reached the strategic town of Huchang, where bitter fighting is progressing, say Chinese reports. Chinese forces in Eastern Honan Province began large-scale mobile warfare in an effort to check a deep Japanese thrust there. Enemy forces are continuing to advance north-westward in a new offensive in northern Anhwei Province.
