N.Z. MEDAL.

FOUND ON MISSION ISLAND. P.A, CHRISTCHURCH, May 2 - A New Zealand cycling medal found by a soldier among Japanese booty in the Pacific has a link with Christchurch. An official war correspondent reported the finding of a medal commemorating a win by C. P. Wilson in a five-mile cycle race in 1892. Mrs. W. C. Giddens, of Christchurch, advises that the medal would be one won by the late Chris Wilson, a noted cyclist and auctioneer, many years ago- . The medal most probably would come from the bungalow of his son. Geoffrey Wilson, who lived with his family in Rabaul. Geoffrey Wilson and his family had to flee before the advancing Japanese, leaving their belongings, and they were now in Brisbane, added Mrs. Giddens. P.A. BLENHEIM, May 2. A resident here has offered what he believes is a partial sequel to the story of the odd trophy Private Travers picked up on Nissan. He considers the cvcling championship medal dated 1893 which was found among booty captured from a Japanese, belonged to C. R. Wilson, who had an auctioneering business in Christchurch, and was a noted racer on “penny farthings,” in the early years of cycle racing. Wilson many years ago went to Queensland, and if still alive he is about 70.
