Opera House Now Showing: “It’s a Date” starring Deanna Durbin. • ‘IT’S A DATE.” Heralded as Deanna Durbin’s greatest picture, “It’s a Date,” now showing at the Opera House with Walter Pidgeon, Kay Francis, Lewis Howard and Eugene Pallette in featured roles. It has the most colourful setting— Hawaii —in which Deanna has ever appeared. Its comedy rates with the funniest ever screened and its romance is as poignant as the most successful hit-makers in Hollywood can produce. The story begins on. Broadway, moves speedily to Maine and finally to Hawaii. Deanna and Miss Francis are offered the same stage role by a producer a part Deanna tries to refuse when she learns her mother wants to play it. Pretending love for Pidgeon and saying she will ‘‘give up her career,” Deanna sets out in pursuit of the hapless Pidgeon, whose love for the mother is secretly returned. Who gets tne role, and who gets the man, is unfolded in a surprising and suitable finish to one of the year’s most entertaining pictures. The singing star has four numbers: “Love is All,” “Loch Lomond,” Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” “Musetta S Street Song” from “La Bohdme ” and “Gvpsy Lullaby,” while Harry Owens and His Royal Hawaiians contribute two, “Rhythm of the Islands,” and “It Happened in Kaloha.”
