1939-43 STAR
QUALIFICATION FOR AWARD ( RUGBY, Jan. 9. Instructions for the issue of the ribbon of the 1939-43 star are issued by the War Office. The Star will rank after the Africa Star, and none may receive both. No person entitled to the Africa Star will be awarded the 1939-43 Star The ribbon is dark blue, red and light blue in three equal vertical stripes. The Star’ will be granted to all officers and other ranks of the United Kingdom and Colonial forces, also nursing officers and officers and other ranks of the women’s auxiliary territorial service and voluntary aid detachment officers and members. Recipients must ‘ have aggregate six months’ service in any of the following operational commands: France, Norway, Belgium, Holland. Northwest Frontier of India before the end 0f'1942, Greece, Crete, Iraq in April and May 1941, Syria, June and July, 1941, Persia, August. 1941, Hong Kong, December, 1941, Malaya, December, 1941 io February 1942, China, Burma, December, 1941 to end of 1943, New Guinea from March, 1942, Madagascar, May to November. 1942, Sicily, July, August, 1943, Italy, September, 1943 to end of 1943. Time as prisoner of war in any of the above commands, also counts. There are exceptions to the six months qualifying rule. The Star is also awarded tq. those who have done six months’ sea-going duty in “dangerous waters” in the maritime artillery, with AA defence of merchant shipping, or AA light machine-gun troops for defence of ships in the Government service. Service in certain operations and commando raids also qualify.
