CAR FALLS INTO GULLY

Friur Woirieri Injured U.S.A. SERVICEMAN STRUCK. P.A. AUCKLAND, Jan. 9. Four women were admitted to the Auckland Btospital this afternoon as the result oT injuries received when a ear in which they were travelling left the road on Piha Hill leading down to the beach, and crashed 50 feet down a steep hillside into a gully. Before leaving the road, the car struck an American serviceman, who was standing on the side of the road, and he was taken to ah American hospital. , ~ The driver of the car was J. Arthur of Mount Eden. He, with two other women passengers, escaped serious injury, and they were not admitted to hospital. The four persons in hospital are:— Mrs. Olive Florence Wolfe, aged 45, of Mount Eden—lacerations to the scalp; concussion, and injuries to the back and leg. Miss Audrey: Leona Beagle, aged 23, of Helensville —concussion, abrasions, and possible fractured nose. Miss Kathleen Gertrude Shadlock, aged 24, of Belmont, Wellington—concussian, abrasions, and possible fracture of ribs and possible internal injuries. Miss Pauline Mildred Shadlock, aged 18, sister of Miss K. Shadlock, of the same address —concussion and shock.

The car was proceeding down hill towards Pihia Beach at noon, when it struck an American serviceman, who was standing on the roadside repairing the punctured tyre of a vehicle. AUCKLAND, Jan. 9. Ah American serviceman was killed when a truck he was driving collided with a train, on Victoria Street level crossing, at Onehunga.
