The Wallsend mine will probably resume this morning. The miners have been called to attend and a meeting will be held to decide wether or not work is to' commence.

Ngahere dredge in the past fortnight won 137 ozs of gold in 193 hours from 76,395 yards; Snowy River dredge 134 ozs in 194 hours from 40,000 yards; and Blackball Creek 62 ozs in 182 hours.

For . 184 hours up to January 5, Grey River dredge won 299 oz 3 dwt from 104,444 yards. For December 1140 oz 4i dwt s was won for 537 hours, and for last year a total of 11,474 ozs from more than three and a half million, yards.

A Washington cable states that two U.S. Navy doctors have developed a new surface treatment foi’ burns, claimed to be better than any of the present methods. A medicated solution of human blood plasma is applied directly to the surface of the burn. The average time of healing is five days.

The Minister of Railways informed Hon. J. O’Brien, M.P. for Westland, that it is intended to provide an additional holding yard, and a sheep drafting race, at Ross, and also to concrete one additional sheep pen for the purpose of giving increased facilities for handling stock at the Ross railway station.

The Hon. J. O’Brien, Member for Westland, has been advised by the Minister of Railways that his request for platforms at the Ho Ho and South Beach stations has been acceeded to, and a 50 ft. platform will be erected at each place. These platforms will meet an obvious need, particularly in the case of passenger: travelling by the rail-car services. The West Coast Boy Scouts who have been camping at Ellesmere for the past fortnight, returned on Saturday. The party numbered 130. On Saturday expresses were fairly well patronised. The relief express from Greymouth carried 170 passengers and the ordinary express 300, a total of 470. This month at Reefton the Labour Party Branches of the Westland, Buller and Motueka electorates are holding a picnic' excursion to Reefton, when speakers of national eminence in the movement will be present to give addresses. It had been intended to. hold the gathering on Sunday January 23, but in order to ensure that the train arrangements shall be most suitable for every locality the date of the excursion has now been altered. It will either be Sunday January 30, or a later weekend.
