PAYNE—-ROUTH AN. A wedding of interest was on Tuesday solemnised at St. Luke’s Church, Watano'a, the contracting parties being Miss Martha, Routhan, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs W. Routhan, Wataroa, and Mr. Allan Payne of Lake Side, Christchurch. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in an embroidered blue frock of satina crepe, with hat and shoes to match, and she also carried a beautiful bridal bouquet, the gift of Mrs. McLaren, of Hari Hari. The bridesmaids were Miss Faith Routhan, sister of the bride, and Misq Merle Sloane, step sister of the bridegroom; the former wearino- a blue frock of satina crepe with black hat and shoes to match and the latter wearing a blue silk linen suit with hat and shoes to match. The bridesmaids also carried bouquets the gifts of Mrs. McLaren The bridegroom was attended bv Mr. Joe Routhan as groomsman and Mr. Spencer Routhan as best man. The ceremony at the church was a ful choral one, Mrs. A. Clarke presiding at the organ, and the “Wedding March’’ being played as the happy couple left the church. A large number were present. The church was nicely decorated by church workers for the occasion. The wedding breakfast was held under ideal weather conditions on the lawn at the residence of the bride’s parents, the Rev. R. O. Williams, presiding. The usual toasts were given and responded to with musical honours. During the afternoon the bridal couple left for Hari Hari en route for Christchurch, their future home, the bride wearing a grey costume with black accessories. In the evening a social was given by Mr. and Mrs Routhan in honour of their daughter’s marriage, the hall being taxed to capacity, all enjoying themselves to the utmost. , SH AR LAND—SIMPSON A wedding of wide interest took place at St. ’Andrew’s Church, Hokitika on Dec. 2, when Myrtle Irene, only daughter of Mr and Mrs. W. Simpson, Fitzherbert St., Hokitika, was married to Allan James Sharland, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Sharland, Nile Street, Nelson. Escorted bv her father, the bride was attractively-, gowned in regina blue brittania crepe, and carried a shower bouquet of Xmas lilies, roses, carnations and maidenhair fern. Kath Cornish, who attended the bride, wore a frock of army gold crepe, with shower bouquet to tone. The bridegroom was attended by Mr C. Collie, whose small daughter Linett presented the bride with a silver horseshoe goodluck token. Mrs Simpson, Mrs Sharland and Mrs Youngman (grandmother of the bride) entertained the guests at the home of the bride’s parents. Mrs Sharland junr. travelled in a wool georgette ensemble of forest green and black with matching hat and accessories. Their honeymoon was spent in Nelson.
