100,000 SURFERS
SYDNEY BEACHES PACKED SYDNEY, Dec. 30. More than 100,000 people, it is estimated, surfed on the beaches near Sydney . last Sunday. Bluebottles, shark scares and overcrowding made surfing unpleasant, at some resorts. The largest crowds were at North Bondi, about 30,000: South Steyne, Manly, 30.000; and .Coogee, 25,000. Some areas were so crowded that s'iirfers were packed uncomfortably •close • together, and three swimmers were injured in collisions.
