FOR 18-YEAR-OLDS

Right to Vote AUSTRALIAN LABOUR PROPOSAL. (Rec. 9.40.) CANBERRA, Dec. 15. After a warm debate, the Australian Labour Party, at its triennial conference here, to-day passed a resolution ttiat the franchise should be extended to ail men and women in the Commonwealth over the age of eighteen years. It is understood that the motion was solidly opposed by politicians attending the conference. It is understood that delegates who opposed the motion declared that, if it was proper that eighteeri-year-old men should fight for Australia, then all of the eighteen-year-old persons should '.be 'considered responsible enough to exercise the vote. The General Committee of the Party had made a recommendation against the adoption of the resolution. It now rests with the Presid>nt. Mr. C. Fallon, to decide whether this Conference decision is to become part of the Labour platform. The decisions of the Conference are binding upon all of the Party members. The Conference is not open to the press.
