WEST COAST BUILDING WORKERS. Regarding holidays at Christmas and New Year for carpenters and painters under the Industrial Rest Period Emergency Regulations, 1943, the following is published at the request of the Westland Carpenters’ Union for the guidance of all parties concerned:^ — Workers employed under the Essential Building Works Modification Order, 1943: All time worked up to and including Friday, Dec. 24, shall be paid for at the usual rates, plus four and a quarter hours for Christmas Day at the usual rates of pay. If workers cease work before Friday in order to return to their homes, they will not be paid for any time so lost, but shall, nevertheless, oe paid four and a half hours for Christmas Day. All workers shall be paid for the five-day period, 27th to 31st December 1943 inclusive, their usual full pay for this period, i.e., workers employed under the Modification Order will receive 43S hours at their hourly rate of pay. For the period January 3rd to January 7th, 1944, workers will be paid for all time worked. Workers under Award; Workers employed under the Award will be paid for the 5-day period from 27th to 31st December inclusive, for 8 hours per day at their usual hourly, rate of pay. The provisions apply to all workers employed at any time during the week prior to 25th December, 1943. Workers who may be required to perform urgent work during tne period 27th to 31st December shall be equivalent rest period on the above conditions within the following six months. Any employer who terminates employment of a worker to whom this regulation applies for the purpose of evading or attempting to evade any obligations imposed on him under these regulations, commits an offence against the regulations, and is liable upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding £5O. Any employer who fails to allow a rest period in the terms of this regulation to any worker as required by the regulations, commits an offence against these regulations, and is liable to a line not. exceeding £5O. The regulations apply to all workers employed under any "award and industrial agreement under the I.C. and A. Act, any agreement under the Labour Disputes Investigation Act, and voluntary agreement, or any Ordei* made under the Emergencv Regulations. Apprentices: Apprentices will receive payment for the above period at their usual weeklv rate.
