Changteh Sector ENEMY COUNTER-ATTACKS CHUNGKING, Dec. 12. Enemy remnants between Changteh and a point 13 miles to the northwestward have been completely wiped out, says a Chinese communique. It adds that Japanese troops, under cover of gas, counterattacked the Chinese positions at Leich-pu, resulting in many Chinese officers and men being poisoned. North of Changteh, as far as Shihpan and north-east near ChingHoshis, the Japanese counter-at-tacked and fighting is continuing. Earlier the Associated Press reported that Japanese troops fleeing from Changteh .clogged the main Shansi highway. Allied aircraft were strafing the fugitives. It added that independent reports nonfirmed that the Changteh lighting was the severest since Shanghai. General Stilwell’s communique states that China-based Liberators bombed the Hanoi railway yjards and adjacent warehouses. Fighter-bomb-ers, supporting the Chinese troops, attacked four villages on the Salween front. The Japanese bombed a forward American air base, but caused only minor damage. Three bombers were shot down, and possibly two others. One American plane was lost.
