At a meeting on Sunday of the Executive of the A.S.RIS., R. 0.1., E.F.C.A. and Railway Tradesmen's Association, it was decided to hold a welcome-home function next Saturday evening for the railway employees.—between 35 and 40 in all—who have served with the armed forces overseas and have returned to work on the West Coast

At a meeting of the Timber Industry Manpower Advisory Committee in Greymouth on Saturday, a case previously adjourned to enable additional evidence to be obtained was again considered and the employer concerned was authorised to terminate the services of an employee as from December 31. i

The Armed Forces Appeal Board will sit at Greymouth at 10.30 a.m. to-morrow when the appeals will, include those for men arid youths called up for one month’s territorial training. The Board will sit at Reefton on Thursday and at Westport on Friday. Both of these sittings win also be at 10.30 a.m.

An appeal to mothers to refrain as far as possible from asking that peramouiators and push-chairs be carried on rail-cars has been issued uy the Railways Department. A short sermon, commemorative of the Christmas season, was given by Mr. D. Stedman, at St. Pam’s Presbyterian Church, Greymouth, on Sunday evening. Conducted by Mr. E. F. Evans, with Miss Evans as organist, the choir presented the following programme:—Carols, “On Christmas Day’’ and “Oh, Christmas Bells” - duet, Mrs. Haglund and Miss Chisholm; solo, Mr. K.
