R.A.F. PLANS

Against Germany and Japan

(Rec. 11.40.) NEW YORK, Dec. 1. ■ Air Marshal Sir William Welsh, head of the Air Staff of the British Military Mission, in. a speech in Detroit, said that the R.A.F. Bomber Command, when freed of tasks m Europe, would concentrate against Japan with even greater fury than against Germany The R.A.F looked forward with keenest anticipation to the day when it would join the American Air Force in applying to Tokio lessons learned in Europe. Air Marshal Welsh said he was convinced that the Germans could not hope to escape a continuation of the destruction being- wrought bv the R.A.F in collaboration with the U.S.A.A.F. The total weight of bombs dropped by the R.A.F. on Europe was about 252 thousand tons. This weight and concentration of bombs would increase until Germany was completely knocked out. He added: “German. industry is being destroyed on a rigid schedule. We already have made nearly twenty of Germany’s producing centres more of a liability than an asset, and have badly damaged fifteen others. When reconnaissance photographs show a damaged factory is being rebuilt, we wait until the Germans have wasted much labour and material before bombing it again.”
