RATES OF PAY Over 4000 North Islanders Coming South P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 1. .between 4,U(JO and 5,000 men from the North Island would be called m to assist with the harvest in the South Island. He dealt also with the rates oi pay for soldiers and the calling-up of men for a period of 28 days for harvesting. Ail pay and allowances (including dependents’ allowances) and conditions will be the same as those for the mobilised Territorial Force, with certain exceptions. Men will be paid a bonus of 6d per hour for work up to eight hours in ordinai'y time (between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.) and 2s 6d per hour for all time over eight hours, or outside of the ordinary time, in addition to the army, pay. The exceptions, which apply to the men who are in camp for twentyeight days only, are as follows: —- (1) The pay and allowances will be exempt from social security and national security tax, but not from income tax. (2) Non-mobilised territorials, when marched in, will retain their levy books, and will be required to pay any quarterly instalment which falls due while they are in the army. (3) Service in the non-mobilised section of the Territorial Force will not be counted in the computation ot service for the purposes of making mufti grants. It is pointed out that, in computing what the non-mob’lised territorials in camn will earn, Army pay Roes on whether any work is done‘or not; that Armv pav allowances are payable on Sundays, ana that the same rates of overtime ana bonuses will be paid where work is done on Sundays as for we°k days.
