ALLIED LEADERS
On Way to Meeting RUMOURS IN EUROPE [Aust. & N.Z. Press Assn.] (Rec. 11.30) LONDON, Nov. 29. A message which is relayed through Sweden by the British United Press Stockholm correspondent stated; — Rumours current in Switzerland state that Mr Churchill and Mr Roosvelt are on their way to meet M. Stalin, probably somewhere in North Africa, and that Marshal Chiang Kai-shek will also join in their talks. The “Daily Telegraph” Zurich correspondent stated: The possibility of a meeting between Mr Churchill, Mr Roosevelt and M. Stalin, the place of such a meeting, and likely decisions, and also General Montgomery’s message to .the Eighth Army calling on it to hit the Germans a “colossal crack” were dominant subjects under discussion in most European countries at the week-end. Some kind of dramatic announcement. for example a last warning to Germany, from the three Allied leaders before an invasion, is thought possible, or even probable. General Montgomery’s message, with its statement, “the time has now come,” is widely interpreted as meaning that, some great political and military decision has been reached. Those arguing thus believe that the Bth. Army is only partly handicapped by adverse weather, and that, some other big decision was awaited before such an order as General Montgomery’s could be given.
