BIG PUKEKOHE FACTORY. AUCKLAND, Nov. 29. An extensive building is being erected for the Internal Marketing Division at Pukekohe for processing fresh vegetables for shipment to the forces in the Pacific. It is estimated that 26.000 to 36,000 tons annually will be handled for the forces and some thousands of tons for civilian consumption by the most modern plant and methods. Mr. Honeyiield, Auckland manager of the Division, said the building will accornmodate a dehydration plant which will deal with 17.000 tons of vegetables annually] for the forces. Railway sidings will ensure rapid delivery from the harvest fields and to the ships’ sides. The planted area in the district is being rapidly increased and now several thousand acres are under vegetable cultivation; also up to 2000 tons of sauerkraut will be manufactured yearly. The dehyration plant will be part of a Dominion chain, others being in Hawke’s Bay, Christchurch, and Motueka. This year throughout New Zealand, 33,000 acres of potatoes will be grown for civilian and military needs.
