CLASSFORM WINS New Zealand Cup STEWARDS TO THEOLATERAL. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 27. The weather was fine and the track in good order for the opening day of the Jockey Club's spring meeting. In .one of the most desperate finishes seen for a long time, an outsider, Classform, held off the favourite, Representative, by half a head in the New Zealand Cup. Don Quex was a' similar margin back, and a neck in front of the flying Palfrey. There was a gap of three lengths to Battledress and Foxhaven. Then came Night Pal, Silver Sox and The Monarch. Classform is owned and trained by Mr. C. W. Boyd at Awapuni and the seven-year-old Inflation mare was ridden an excellent race by ivl. Andrews, who is apprenticed to J. J. Waller.

Over the early stages, Classform was in the middle of the Held, but gradually improved her position, challenging the leader, Don Quex, at the distance. She fought on solidly when Representative made his effort, and held on to win by the barest margin. While Classform thoroughly deserved the winning turn which came her way. Representative, Don Quex and Palfrey ran great races, especially Palfrey;.’ Classform carried £l6l 10s and £364, Representative (the favourite) £2991 and £2321, and the Don Quex-Glady-nev bracket £llB4 and £1934. The totalisator handled £129,209 compared with £100,666 last year. Results: —
