NO BLANKET MILITARY EXEMPTION. WELLINGTON, Nov. 26. No blanket exemption of farm workers from military serv’ce is intended by the National Service Department. Where a man is called for military, service his case goes if necessary before an Appeal Board and each case is juoiged on the merits, it is authoritatively stated. This is contrary to a statement by the Secretary (Mr. Struthers; at a meeting of the South Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union. No move has been made to prevent men from joinoig lire armed forces it they are called up, other than through the decisions of the Appeal Board. It is pointed out that naturally Appeal Boards are aware of the need for retaining skilled workers on farms.
