KUMARA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. What might easily b een disastrous fire was narrowly aveit m 11 o’clock on Tuesday nignt. passer-by noticed fire and smoke issuing from the Seddon Street corner of the Masonic Hall on the Fire Staton side. The vigorous ringing of the firebell quickly, brought a good number of citizens to the scene. The Fire Brigade members, under Capt. McEnaney, had some difficulty m locating the seat of the fire, as smoke and fire seemed to be coming trom the wall right up to the P ar ??t;; However the removal of some ot tne outer corrugated iron walls and a willing bucket brigade soon had the fire under control. From appearances next morning the fire appeared to have started between the flooring joists and the floor just inside the exit door. The members of the Fire Brigade are to be complimented on effecting a remarkable save. It is understood that a Masonic Committee meeting had been held earlier in the evening.
