KUMARA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent.! Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Little have arrived from Christchurch on a brief visit. Mr. Chas. Clark is an inmate of the Westland Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. G. Malcolmson have left for Christchurch for a brief holiday. Mrs. H. Sinclair left on Thursday for Christchurch. | Constable L. Studholme has returned from a brief visit to Christchurch. i During his absence, Constable Rennie I was in charge of Kumara Station. | Miss D. A. McLean, who has been I an inmate of the Christchurch Hospital, has returned home to Kumara. Mr. M. R. Spiers of Christchurch, is at present on a brief visit to his parents in Kumara. Driver Joseph McKenzie is at present visiting Christchurch. Many friends will regret to learn 'of the death in Wellington of Mrs. Marris, nee Lizzie Berdinner, a former well-known citizen of Kumara. - The Kumara water scheme has been brought in from the new reservoir as far as the Church-Tui Street corner and the local fire brigade members had a try-out on Wednesday evening. I The Dental Nurse (Miss Tizard) has had a busv fortnight giving dental service to the small children of the district, a service which is greatly appreciated by parents. There was a good attendance at the October meeting of the Women’s In-1 stitute, Mrs. A. Fensom presiding.. The meeting opened with the Insti-) tute song and the aspirations were read. Mrs. Comport gave a full re- | port of the Federation meeting re-, cently held at Ross. The _ golden thread talk on New Zealand industry was given by Mrs. Fensom. fateresting . demonstrations on tatting were given by Mrs. Birss and ° n smocking' by Mrs Fahey. The A.B.C.E. Box on smocking was also on display, many interesting samples being exhibited. The social half-hour competition resulted: Mrs. Lakin ana Mrs. McNabb equal, first. The competitions for the evening resulted: Best pot plant, Mrs. Fensom 1: Miss Hamer 2. Best article made from a flower bag, Mrs. Caithness, Juni\ 1. Mrs. Fensom 2: Miss Hamer 3. Best Bloom Competition: Mrs Reedv 1; Miss Hamer 3. Mrs. Fensom 3. Mrs. Caithness exhibited a tev dog made from table baise. The hostesses were Mesdames Caithness, Senior and Junior. God Defend New Zealand brought a pleasant meeting to a close.
