FOOD FROM THE CAPE. (Rec. 9.50) NEWVELHI, Oct. 21. General Smuts, on behalf of tne Government of South Africa, has offered India substantial quantities ot food, including, grains and milk powder. The Indian Government has p-xpressed appreciation of the ’humane offer. It immediately called upon Indian Commissioners in South Africa to arrange for the transport of the foodstuffs. N.Z. AID ADVOCATED CHRISTCHURCH. Oct. 22. Support for any move by the New Zealand Government to make money available for the relief of the food shortage in Bengal has been given by the Canterbury Trades Council. This information was given to-day by the president of the council, Mr John Roberts, who said that the members "of the council had been concerned at the tragic situation in Bengal. They realised that it would hardly be possible to arrange for food shipments from New Zealand in time, but ‘if lhey could buy food elsewhere, they might be able to assist.
