ATTEMPT AT PARIS. (Rec. 9.20.) LONDON. Oct. 20. Berlin radio stated that an attempt on the life of M. De Brinon, the Vichy Ambassador ’ at z Paris, was made early on Sunday. De Brinon told the press that he was awakened by a violent explosion at his villa in Chantilly. There was a second explosion as he got out. of bed. His room was considerably damaged. De Brinon was slightly wounded by splinters in the face. An investigation showed that three anti-tank mines which had been stolen from the Germans, had been fixed to the windows and the doors of the Ambassador’s bedroom opening to a balcony. Each mine contained twenty-two pounds of explosive. DEATH OF M. HERRIOT. (Rec. 11.10.) LONDON, Oct. 20. The British United Press says: It IS announced from Madrid that Edouard Herriot died suddenly. Recently he entered a sanitorium in the Paris region, where he had been confined on the suspicion of his attempting io escape from France. M. Herriot’s death was recently announced. Then it was denied by the German News Agency. FILIPINO ASSEMBLY NEW YORK, Oct. 19. The Domei (Japanese) News Agency, stated in a broadcast that the Philippines Government has organised its first national assembly in Manila. The Tokio radio stated the session of the Philippines Republic National Assembly overwhelmingly, approved the Treaty of Alliance with Japan, thus ensuring the Philippines defence. The Assembly decided to grant an amnesty to persons engaged in sedition and guerrilla activities, provided they swear to become goot citizens. *
