NEW YORK, Oct. 18. A request of Mr. John L. Lewis, president of the United Mme Workers’ Union, that they should return to work has been refused by 20,U1)J coal miners on strike in Alabama. Already the strike is said to have affected pig iron production tbere. Mr. Lewis, at the request of the War Labour Board, on Saturday asked the men to submit to arbitration and return to work meanwhile. Almost unanimously the men refused.,
