ANGLO-SOVIET TREATY

FIRST ANNIVERSARY. LONDON, May 26. M. Kalinin Soviet President, sent a cable to King George on the occasion of the first anniversary of the’ signing of the Anglo-Soviet Treaty. He said: '“The glorious victory of British and American forces in Tunisia shows a powerful growth in the ..allied forces, and has produced feelings of admiration among the widest circles of the Soviet people. Many difficulties lie ahead, but the enemy must not be allowed a breathing space. 1 am convinced that the Anglosoviet Alliance, embodied in the Treaty, arid military co-ordination with the United States, will bring us victory over the enemy, and to a nost-war alliance, which will be in the interest of our peoples and of

all freedom-loving countries. Mr. A. Eden sent a message to Russia on the anniversary saying that the Red Army; in the past year had inscribed the name of Stalingrad on its proud banner, and dealt the invader crushing blows. He referred to the success in Tunisia, and the air pounding of Germany, and added: "We can look forward to the coming year not unhopefully. sure' in me knowledge we shall each play our part to the utmost of our capacity against the common foe.”
