The death occurred at his home in Bealy Street, Hokitika, yesterday morning of Mr. George Nesbitt, a very well kntjwnj resident of the town. The late Mr. Nesbitt was a native of Scotland, and 66 years of r-cre. He followed the occupation of and was employed by local lirms over a long period of years. He was of bright disposition and a well respected resident of ihe district. His wife survives him. Mr. A. R. Elcock presided at the meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council last evening. There was a full attendance of members. Messrs O J. Hutchison and others forwarded a letter of 1 hanks for the installation of a street light. The Sexton reported that vases were being removed from graves at the cemetery, and recently a greenstone cross had been removed. The Council resolved to ask the Sexton to keep a careful look out. and offenders would be prosecuted. Accounts totalling £1,207 9s 6d were for payment. Abbot loir fees for the month amounted to £96 17s 2d. The Council adhered to ifr previous decision not to take over the main outlet, drain from the State Housin'? block. The chairman of works advised that the drain was not serving the town, but was only an outfall drain from the housing block. The drain could not be utilised bv the Council for linking with the town drainage system as it was of too small a diameter. The Council discussed the proposal to bring into use ‘two areas at the cemetery, tne lirsfj area 'to be brought into use would be the area on the left hand side of the main entrance, and the second area would be the ornamental J plot. The chairman and members of the Reserves Committee were asked to inspect the areas and devise the best means of bringing them into use The Health Inspector forwarded advice of his transfer to Wkport, and also expressed thanks im the attention given to requirements during his stay in Hokitika. Mr C. Calir.'ri. Chairman of Works, reported that the staff had carried out a big programme of street sealing, and ho recommended the Counc’l to give preference to sealing the footpaths In the coming season. The Town Clerk said it was proposed to hr : nq down the estimates at an early date.' and he would like some intimation from the various committees as to their proposals. It was agreed that the Council should make an inspection of the town and then bring down the programme of works to be undertaken
