FIRE AT KUMARA
>ir •. n Correspondent* A fire broke out in the home of Mr James Murtha, Main Street, Kumara, shortly after 1 2 p.m. yesterday. It was first noticed by Mr J. Murphy, and he and other neighbours, Ivor Steel, Edward Case, and Mrs Chant, were quickly on the scene to render assistance. The fire bell sounded at 2.15, and a big crowd soon assembled forming a bucket brigate. Mr Murtha was at the time, confined to his bed. A start was made on the removal of the furniture. . , The fire, which had begun near the kitchen range, was mainly in the ceiling of the building, although it began to eat info the walls at some places. The outbreak was finally extin guis h e d at 2,30 p.m.
