KUMARA NOTES

The annual meeting of the Kumara Red Cross was held on April 28. Members present were Mr A.. 8. Spiers, in the chair, Mesdames Wise, Birss, Inglis, Reedy, Gibson, Lakin, Haines and Mclntosh, and Messrs Evenden, Wise, Hunt and Thwaites. An apology for absence w’as received from the Rev. Father D. Healy. The year’s work was reviewed. The quota of parcels had been sent and letters of appreciation had been receivied from soldiers overseas, testifying to the good quality of. the .parcels. Already £lO2 out of the quota of £129 had been forwarded to the Hokitika Patriotic Committee. The balancesheet,. w’as read and adopted. There i was enough money in hand and so it was decided to forward a cheque of £27 to complete the quota. A circular notifed that our quota of parcels w’as increased from 10 to 17, and that one parcel was required immediately. Two more lots would be required before the end of the year. New members added to the committee and welcomed were Mesdames Haines. Senr., Mclntosh, Junr., and Gibson. It. was reported that Mr and Mrs J. Burridge had consented to be on the committee. Mr G. Hunt was thanked for his work in organising the young people to assist him in running the social function and was asked to convey the committee’s vote of thanks to them. Mr Hunt was also asked to form a social and entertainment committee. It was resolved to canvass the town for donations for parcels and collectors were appointed. The collecting day was fixed for May 8. On the motion of Mr Wise, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the ladies for their untiring work during the year.
