SEND MORE PLANES!

MacArthur s Slogan ‘ “BACK TO MANILA!” JOE BROWN’S PLEA. (Rec. 9.15) NEW YORK? April 27. During an informal talk in Australia, General MacArthur said to the American comedian, Joe Brown: “The bullets have not been made, and the disease does not exist that can kill me until I have led my men back to Manila, to those sixteen million people who stood and fought beside us.” Mr. Brown is urging the need for more planes for 'the Southern Pacific. He told this story of General MacArthur’s pledge on his return to America from his tour of Allied units, in the Pacific. , “If we had had more air strength out there, one in four of our lighting men who have been killed would be alive to-day,” he said. “We have in General MacArthur, perhaps the finest soldier in the world. His officersand men are worthy of him —but they need support from the home front. I say, now, that, while our boys are fighting a tough enemy, too many people at home are thinking first about themselves. Down in the Southern Pacific, our hoys need more fighters and more bombers. . The planes there are doing a fine job — but too many of them have to be patched up and sent out in a hurry.”
